SureSmile Transforms Teeth Without Braces

Explore Alternatives to Traditional Orthodontics

If you’d like a straighter smile in Algonquin but you want to avoid traditional braces, SureSmile from Root Dental may be just what you need. With SureSmile, you can straighten your teeth without the discomfort, inconvenience, or appearance of traditional braces.

What Is SureSmile? Explaining The Basics

SureSmile is one of the most popular clear aligner systems on the market. It uses clear, thin plastic “aligners” or “trays” to gently straighten your teeth. Each aligner is designed to fit perfectly over your teeth, and to exert steady pressure that moves your teeth into a healthier, properly-aligned position. SureSmile leaves you with straight teeth, a perfect bite, and the self-confidence you need to let your best self shine through!

Functional Benefits of Clear Aligners

Clear aligners not only improve the aesthetics of a patient's smile but also offer significant functional benefits, particularly in terms of bite harmony. A properly aligned bite plays a crucial role in overall oral health and function. When teeth are aligned correctly, the forces during chewing and speaking are distributed more evenly, which can reduce the risk of malocclusion—the misalignment of teeth or jaws.

Malocclusion can lead to a range of issues, including:

  • Periodontitis: Misaligned teeth can create areas that are difficult to clean, leading to an increased risk of gum disease and inflammation.
  • Recession: Uneven pressure on the teeth and gums can cause gum recession over time, exposing the root surfaces and making the teeth more susceptible to decay and sensitivity.
  • Dental Caries: When teeth are misaligned, they may create areas that trap food particles, increasing the risk of cavities due to difficulty in cleaning between the teeth.

By achieving a more harmonious bite, clear aligners reduce the mechanical strain on the teeth and gums, improving overall oral health and minimizing the likelihood of periodontal disease, recession, and cavities. This functional alignment contributes to long-term dental health and can also enhance the comfort and efficiency of daily functions like biting and chewing.

More Benefits of SureSmile

A Subtle Way to Straighten Your Teeth

Unlike braces, SureSmile is nearly invisible when worn. Each set of aligners is made from strong, thin, transparent plastic. Unless someone looked very closely, they’d have no idea that you’re straightening your teeth.

Fits Into Your Lifestyle

You can take out your SureSmile aligners to eat your favorite foods and to brush and floss, too. This means there aren’t any dietary restrictions and cleaning your teeth is super simple. You can even take out SureSmile to play sports or musical instruments like brass or woodwinds!

Enhanced Comfort

SureSmile aligners are made of smooth plastic. There are no pointy, sharp metal bits like wires, brackets, or bands that could irritate your gums, tongue, cheeks, lips, or any other part of your mouth.

Reduced Treatment Time

While this varies patient-by-patient, most people who get SureSmile will complete their treatment in between 9-18 months. Braces, on the other hand, typically require a minimum treatment time of 18 months.

Fantastic Results

When you're done with SureSmile, your teeth and bite will be significantly improved. You’ll be able to smile proudly and love your teeth once again. A straight smile is also easier to clean, reducing your risk of common oral health issues like cavities and gum disease.

What To Expect from SureSmiles Treatment

  • Orthodontic consultation – First, you’ll need to see Dr. Grothe for a comprehensive exam at Root Dental. She will examine your teeth, take X-rays of your mouth, and discuss your smile goals with you. Together, you can determine if SureSmile is right for you!
  • Fitting & treatment planning – If you choose SureSmile, Dr. Grothe will take 3D images of the inside of your mouth. Then, she’ll work with SureSmile to plan your treatment and build your first several sets of clear aligners.
  • Picking up your SureSmile aligners – Your first sets of SureSmile aligners will arrive in a few weeks. You’ll come and pick them up from Root Dental when they're ready. Dr. Grothe will give you instructions on how to wear them, maximize their effectiveness, and care for both your aligners and your smile.
  • Continued treatment & checkups – You’ll wear each set of aligners for 20-22 hours per day and switch to a new set every 1-2 weeks, depending on Dr. Grothe’s instructions. You’ll also need to come in for regular checkups so that she can track your progress and give you your next few sets of SureSmile aligners.
  • Final visit & retainer – For typical patients, treatment takes between 12-18 months. Once your treatment is done and your smile looks perfect, Dr. Grothe will provide you with a fixed or removable retainer. This keeps your teeth from shifting, ensuring your newly-straight smile lasts a lifetime.
